FAQs About Vape Coils

What are vape coils?

Vape coils are a key element of your vape, as they heat up your e-liquid to create vapour that you then inhale.

This process works through the wicking material – usually cotton, or sometimes mesh depending on the coil type – which absorbs the vape juice when you fill the pod or tank. The coil’s wire is then heated by the battery, causing the liquid in the wick to vaporise. As you inhale through the mouthpiece, the vapour travels up the chimney of your vape and into your mouth and lungs, delivering that satisfying throat hit.

At the E-Cig Store, we offer a variety of vape coils to meet your needs. Popular products include:

What is a pod cartridge?

A pod cartridge is the refillable or pre-filled container used in pod-based vaping systems. It holds the e-liquid and often contains the coil and wick as well. Some pods are disposable, while others are reusable.Ā

FAQs

How long will my vape coil last?

How long your vape coil will last is dependent on usage, e-liquid and coil type. Usually, coils last between 1 and 3 weeks, but the following factors will have an impact:

  • Usage: Frequent use means your coil will likely wear out sooner
  • E-Liquids: Sweeter e-liquids tend to clog up vape coils faster than simpler flavours

Coil type: Slow resistant sub-ohm coils, may have a shorter lifespan than higher resistance coils

How will I know when my vape coil needs to be replaced?

You will know that your vape coil needs replacing if you experience any of these:

  1. Burnt taste: The first sign your coil needs replacing will be an unpleasant burnt taste whilst vaping.
  2. Gurgling Noise: This is a sign to change your coil ASAP. Mesh coils and pod cartridges will also make this noise when they need to be changed.
  3. Weak flavour: If your hit of your favourite flavour is not consistent, it’s time to change that coil.
  4. Small clouds: If you’re producing minimal vapour and your device is high on charge, then your coil has likely expired.

Leaking device: Although a vape device can leak for many reasons, one of them is that your coil has worn out, so be sure to check.

Is there a way to extend the life of a vape coil?

To extend the life of your coil, it’s essential to properly prime it before using your vape.

Start by generously dripping e-liquid directly onto the coil, allowing the wicking material to fully absorb the liquid until it looks saturated. Flick away any excess. Re-fit the coil, fill the tank with vape juice, and leave it to soak for a few minutes.

Next, without pressing the fire button, take a few dry puffs by pulling on the mouthpiece—this helps the liquid settle evenly into the wick. If your device has adjustable power, set it to a low wattage and take a few gentle puffs. From there, gradually increase the power in intervals until you reach your preferred setting.

What’s the difference between coil resistances?

The difference in coil resistance significantly impacts your vaping experience by influencing vapour production, temperature, and the type of e-liquid used.

  • A sub-ohm coil produces more vapour with a warmer hit, offering a direct to lung (DTL) sensation.
  • An above-ohm coil: Creates less vapour with a tighter draw for a mouth-to-lung (MTL) hit.
An above-ohm coil: Creates less vapour with a tighter draw for a mouth-to-lung (MTL) hit.

What is a mesh coil?

A mesh coil is a sheet of metal with holes instead of a traditional round wire. Using a mesh coil can come with multiple benefits, such as:

  • Even heating
  • Enhanced flavour
  • Longer lifespan
  • Less chance of dry hits

How do I know what coil fits my device?

Find a coil that is compatible with your chosen device for an optimal vaping experience that avoids damage due to not being the correct fit.

Can I clean and reuse a vape coil?

Although you can clean a vape coil as a temporary fix, it is important to replace your worn out coil to continue its use.

How do I get the best coil performance?

Follow these simple tips to ensure the best coil performance:Ā

  • Always prime new coils
  • Use high-quality e-liquids
  • Stay within the recommended wattage
  • Avoid sweet or dark juices
  • Don't let your tank run dry
