The Vaping Products Duty (VPD) began on 1 October 2026. The duty is charged on vaping liquids based on their volume rather than nicotine strength.

The tax applies to:

Freebase e-liquids
Shortfills
Zero nicotine vape juice
Nicotine shots
Prefilled vape pods containing e-liquid
Prefilled Kits

Vape hardware such as batteries, empty pod kits, tanks and coils are generally not subject to the new liquid duty unless supplied with prefilled e-liquid.

What is the UK Vaping Products Duty?

The Vaping Products Duty is a new government excise duty on vaping liquids that comes into effect on 1 October 2026. It applies to most vape liquids sold in the UK, including nicotine-free products.

What are tax-free e-liquids?

Tax-free e-liquids are vape liquids currently sold before the new UK Vaping Products Duty has been applied to retail pricing. They are available while eligible pre-duty stock remains.

1 October 2026. It's called the Vaping Products Duty (VPD).

Will vape prices increase in 2026 UK?

Yes. From 1 October 2026, the UK is introducing the Vaping Products Duty, which applies to vaping liquids. This is expected to increase the retail cost of many e-liquids.

How much will e-liquids cost after the vape tax?

The final retail price will vary between products and brands. However, the duty is set at £2.20 per 10ml of vaping liquid before VAT is added, meaning many products are expected to become noticeably more expensive.

Are tax-free e-liquids genuine?

Yes. Tax-free e-liquids are genuine products from trusted vape brands. The term "tax-free" refers to eligible pre-duty stock sold before the new Vaping Products Duty is reflected in retail pricing. The products themselves are exactly the same quality as those sold after the tax changes.

What does ‘Duty-Free’ mean?

Are nicotine salts affected by the new vape tax?

Will prices go back down after October?

Are 0mg e-liquids taxed?

Yes. The new duty applies to vaping liquids, whether or not they contain nicotine.

Are vape kits included in the vape tax?

Empty vape kits and hardware are generally not subject to the liquid duty. However, products supplied with prefilled e-liquid may be affected because the duty applies to the liquid itself.

Does the vape tax apply to prefilled kits?

Only to the e-liquid inside. If a kit comes with prefilled pods or cartridges, the duty is calculated on that liquid content. The device, battery, and any empty pods or tanks aren't taxed.

Can I still get multi-buy offers after the vape tax?

Retail promotions will vary by retailer. Many vape stores may continue offering multi-buy e-liquid deals, although prices may reflect the new Vaping Products Duty.
